Game of the Night
George Washington Colonials 69, Fordham Rams 63
The Rams came into D.C. ready to put up a fight on Sunday night, but they fell just short to the red-hot Colonials who improve to 12-2 on the season. After leading by 15 at the break, the Colonials let their lead dwindle as Fordham fought its way back. The Rams deficit was cut to 3 with just under 3 minutes left in the game, but down the stretch, the Colonials were able to make their free throws and hold on to win their conference opener.
George Washington was led by Tyler Cavanaugh who posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. His free throw shooting towards the end of the game really helped solidify George Washington’s win. Fordham was led by Mandell Thomas and Antwoine Anderson who each had 13 points on the night. Ryan Rhoomes also had an impressive showing with 12 points and 9 key rebounds.
Foul shooting was probably the biggest key for George Washington’s ability to hang on at home. The Rams fouled the Colonials an astounding 27 times, leading to 34 free throw attempts for George Washington. The Colonials knocked down 74% of those attempts as a team. George Washington’s next matchup will come on the road against Saint Louis on Wednesday. Fordham will host La Salle that same day.
