A10 Wednesday Recap: Gibbs leads Davidson past Morehead State, 81-77

Graham HootenBy Graham HootenDecember 24, 2015No Comments1 Min Read

Game of the Day

Davidson Wildcats 81, Morehead State Eagles 77

It took a stellar performance from guard Jack Gibbs, but Davidson escaped Morehead State 81-77 in the finale of the Gotham Classic. Gibbs tied a season-high with 41 points, guiding the Wildcats past the Eagles in the final minutes of play. Davidson improves to 8-2 on the season and moves on to face California next week before transitioning into conference play.

Davidson started off the game behind, due in part to Morehead State’s lights out shooting from beyond the arc. The Eagles finished the first half shooting 9-13 from three, effectively propelling them to a 37-34 halftime lead.

However in the second half, the Wildcats came to life. Jordan Barham scored a couple big buckets and Gibbs added 25 points including a dagger three in the final minute to put the game away. Combined, Barham and Gibbs scored 58 of Davidson’s 81 points.

As of now, the Wildcats are just off the bubble for the NCAA tournament. However, with a win over Cal next week, Davidson will be right back in the mix of things. But for now, they should relax and enjoy another solid non-conference win.
