Dan Hurley has added another talented piece to his rebuild of Rhode Island, this time in the form of Memphis transfer, Kuran Iverson.
A former top-35 recruit, Iverson will enroll Monday and become eligible to join the Rams during the second semester of the 2015-16 season. The 6’8 wing was dismissed by Josh Pastner from the Tigers after a series of issues.
A cousin of Sixers great, Allen Iverson, Kuran was suspended for two games this season for a violation of team rules, then seemingly sealed his fate after retweeting a tweet that called Pastner a fraud. He also responded to a tweet asking what rule he broke by saying, “smiling too hard coach couldn’t take it”.
Iverson averaged 4.6 points in 11.8 minutes for the Tigers as a sophomore, 2.5 in 9.1 as a freshman after being heavily recruited out of high school. Kuran saw his stock as high as the No.2 prospect in the country behind Julius Randle for the 2013 class.
He was rumored to have discipline issues in high school but has a chance to now focus on the future now in his new home in Kingston, RI.
Iverson joins a talented young core headlined by sophomore leading scorers EC Matthews (17 ppg) and Hassan Martin (11.9 ppg), as well as Rivals No.66 player for the 2014 class, Jared Terrell, who’s averaging 8.1 points per contests in his freshman season with the Rams.
