Duquesne at Richmond – Recap & Gallery

DUQUESNE 55 – RICHMOND 86

Richmond and Duquesne have combined for just one true road victory this season.  That glorious moment was back on November 22, when the Dukes took a win off of Kenpom 307, Abilene Christian.  Since then the two A10 teams have gone a collective 0-11 in away games.  The irony of Duquesne donning their road blues tonight was inescapable.

The Spiders used a blistering 52.9 3P% in the first half to exploit every weakness in the Duquesne 2-3 zone, firing away to a 49-27 halftime lead.  Richmond’s ability to move the ball through the zone defense was the key factor in finding open looks.  TJ Cline spent much of the night operating from the elbows, in the soft part of the zone, helping to facilitate more productive offensive options.  Cline finished the night with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists.

Richmond coach, Chris Mooney cited his team’s patience.

“A zone gets more effective when you rush…a couple of times we passed up a good shot, for a better one.”

In all, the Spiders netted 13 threes on 65.2 eFG%, with Kendall Anthony and ShawnDre’ Jones combining on 8-17 from range.  It was a career night for Jones, as the sophomore poured in a game-high 27 points off the bench for Richmond.
