VCU lands local top-100 guard Williams as first 2015 commit

Shaka Smart added a major piece to the growing program that is VCU basketball today, getting a commitment from 2015 guard, Kenny Williams.

Williams chose VCU over the likes of North Carolina, Indiana and Georgetown, opting to stay home after his senior season at nearby LC Bird High School.

At 6’3 175 lbs, Williams climbed ESPN’s rankings to the No.82 spot for the 2015 class, due mostly in part to a dangerous stroke from deep, but is described as more of a combo guard than just a shooter. He’s the first commitment of VCU’s 2015 class and gives the Rams their fourth ESPN top-100 player out of five players in the past two classes. The Rams have two available spots after William’s commitment and are being considered by a number of other top-100 prospects.

“It just felt like the right thing to do,” Williams told Rivals.com. “The situation couldn’t get any better than VCU.”

Location ended up being a factor for Williams, telling Rivals.com, “I’m looking forward to my family being able to see me play.”
