Duquesne’s Jeremiah Jones was one of two players arrested this past weekend for a double dose of bad news for the Dukes.

Some around-the-league items to start your week:

Two Duquesne players arrested
Two rising Duquesne juniors, Micah Mason and Jeremiah Jones, were arrested early Saturday morning for an alleged altercation on Pittsburgh’s popular Carson St. Jones was charged with simple assault, escape and public drunkenness for allegedly punching a 21-year-old man and taking police on a footrace through South Side. Mason ran with Jones but was charged only with possession of an altered driver’s license. Both averaged over 24 minutes per contest this past season with Mason returning as the Dukes top-returning scorer. Jones averaged 6.3 points for the Dukes in his 24.7 minutes this past season.

VCU to take part in inaugural Veterans Classic
VCU will take on 2014 Sweet 16 participant, Tennesseee, in the inaugural Veterans Classic this upcoming season in Annapolis, Maryland. The two will play in the opening game of the event at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 at the US Naval Academy. Navy will take on Michigan State following that game in a series hosted by the Naval Academy and CBS Sports in a celebration of Veterans Day.

Dayton welcomes one, says goodbye to another
Earlier this week the Dayton Flyers secured 6’6 JMU transfer, Charles Cooke. Cooke played two seasons in the CAA and averaged 14.3 points and 5 rebounds per game this past season in Harrisonburg. Cooke will sit out this next season and will have two years of eligibility starting remaining starting November of 2015. That news proceeded the decision of starting point guard, Khari Price, to transfer to be closer to his family in Louisiana. Price started all 37 games for the Flyers and averaged 6.2 points per game as a sophomore.
