The Atlantic 10’s men’s basketball programs combined to tie for sixth out of 32 conferences in the 2012-2013 APR ratings, which were released Wednesday, according to the Atlantic 10’s website.
Every team met this year’s new requirements, which are “teams must earn a minimum 900 four-year APR or a 930 average over the most recent two years,” according to the NCAA.
This is how the NCAA calculates each team’s APR:
Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one retention point for staying in school and one eligibility point for being academically eligible. A team’s total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by one thousand to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate score.
The average score for a Division 1 men’s basketball program is 957, according to the Atlantic 10.
Richmond’s basketball team led the conference with a 995 APR, five points shy of a perfect score. George Washington, Dayton, and George Mason had scores above 980.
Rhode Island’s score of 932 was the lowest in the conference. Duquesne, Saint Joseph’s and Fordham’s scores also fell below the national average.
George Washington was the last team to be penalized for not meeting NCAA APR requirements. The Colonials lost a scholarship for their 2007-2008 APR score, according to the NCAA.
