When the dust settles…

Mat Shelton-EideBy Mat Shelton-EideJuly 3, 201211 Comments3 Mins Read

As of two days ago, the Atlantic 10 is officially a 16-team conference (at least for the next season), and folks can finally start to settle in in preparation for the fall sports season. So while we wait for the action to heat up again, why not gaze deep into our A10Talk crystal ball and attempt to predict what’s sure to be an unpredictable hoops season.

What I decided to do was go through each teams conference season and predict games they might win and lose.

DISCLAIMER: These are a ROUGH estimate of upcoming performance. Under one team’s A-10 schedule I may have them winning a game, but under another team’s schedule have that same game resulting in a different outcome. The idea is there are always toss-up games, so having those results match perfectly through the entire A-10 schedule isn’t a must for our purposes. There are always those unexpected wins, and unexpected losses. Our final standings are meant to give a general idea of — based on returning talent/expectation — how a certain team should do. There will be teams that play under their potential (perhaps Butler?) as well as a team or two who may surprise (Richmond?).

Predicted wins in green, losses in red.

@A10Talk good analysis but #vcu & #butler aren’t going to have it that easy imo. Expect #lasallembb to be better than predicted. #philahoops

@A10Talk Boy that’s awful nice of you for Butler. La Salle at 8-8? Also you have Duquesne winning @ La Salle but La Salle winning vs. DUQ

@Aaron_Bracy @a10talk #LaSalleMBB has a VERY favorable sked in terms of road games. If home court is as kind as LY could be 10+ league wins

You are selling Charlotte way short. I am not saying they will win the league but a top half finish isn’t out of the question (I expect it).

Charlotte returns Chris Braswell who many think will be a first team All A-10 selection this season, All-Rookie team PG Pierra Henry who was fourth in the nation in steals. DeMario Mayfield was coming on strong at the end of last season. Plus all the highly touted incoming freshman (namely Willie Clayton).

I think the Niners should make some noise this season and definitely be better than this (way early) prediction.
