Game Recaps

Richmond off to best start since 2012

Spiders 3-0 for first time since 2012

You heard correctly Richmond fans, your Spiders are 3-0 for the first time in 7 years.  Chris Mooney’s squad took care of business today in front of 4,604 at the Robins Center, where they dismantled Cal State Northridge 90-62.  Richmond led at halftime 55-18, where everything seemed to be clicking for the Spiders.  Nick Sherod led the team in scoring with 25 points including going 7-9 from 3pt land. Grant Golden had quite the game, registering a double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds in the Richmond victory.  Blake Francis seemed to be perfectly fine after hyper-extending his left knee during the Spiders OT victory over the Commodores last Thursday night, as he tallied 16 points and 2 steals.

Richmond bench got some work

As the Spiders led by 37 at halftime, all 13 on the bench got to see some action today.  Souleymane Koureissi led the bench with scoring with 5 points in 14 minutes.  Jake Wojcik saw some solid playing time, as he led the bench with 21 minutes played with 5 rebounds for the Spiders.  Bench scoring has been an issue for the Spiders so far, so it was good to see them get some playing time today.  Like I’ve mentioned before, if Richmond wants to make a run during A-10 play, they are going to need all of their guys to chip in.

What’s Next?

The Spiders will conclude their season opening 4 game homestand this Friday night at 7:00 as the Spiders take on the 1-4 Cowboys from McNeese State.  This will hopefully be another game where the bench can get some more time to work, as the Spiders are heavily favored in this one as well.  Richmond has a tougher schedule after this one, as they will have to play Wisconsin and Boston College over the span of 5 days.  We will see you guys on Friday night at the Robins Center as the Spiders look to start off 4-0 vs McNeese State.
