George Washington 42 – UVA 59

Charlottesville, Virginia

After some minor technological hurdling, I’ve finally got photos up from last week’s A10 versus ACC matchup between Geroge Washington and University of Virginia.  UVA held true to their reputation as the formidable pack line defense made life difficult for the Colonials.  Kevin Larsen and Patricio Garino were a combined 25% shooting and could muster but 7 points between them.  Kethan Savage led George Washington with 13 points, and Joe McDonald chipped in 7 points and 4 helpers.  Freshman Yuta Watanabe (who maaaaay be A10 Talk’s secret freshman crush) made himself helpful with 10 points, but also led the Colonials with only 5 rebounds, where UVA was dominant-winning the battle of the boards 41-28.  In the end, the Cavalier defense was simply too physical, swarmed GW at every turn, and held them to just 16 second half points.  UVA also scored as many points in the paint (42) as the entire George Washington team.

This was the first of four A10 tilts for UVA.  The Cavs will also play La Salle on Friday, Nov.28 (9:30 pm) in the Barclay’s Center Classic, face VCU in a highly anticipated rematch in Richmond on Saturday, Dec.6 (2:00 pm), and be back in Charlottesville on Tuesday, Dec.30 (6:00 pm) to face Davidson in the final OOC test for both squads before the start of conference play.
