Game Thread for Richmond-SJU
Richmond (10-3) vs SJU (3-9)
Kenpom gives Richmond 91% chance of winning

What to watch for: Saint Joseph's
Ryan Daly is averaging 20.8 pts for the Hawks
Leads the team in pts, reb (8.2), ast (4.6), & steals with (1.1)
When he scores, he scores
  • 27 pts vs William & Mary
  • 32 pts vs Villanova
  • 25 pts vs Lafayette
  • 23 pts vs St. Francis (PA)
  • 2 pts vs Temple
What sticks out to me here is that if he's shut down, their offense really struggles. They lost that game to the Owls 108-61. If Richmond shuts Daly down, I really like their chances at a lobsided victory.

What to watch for: Richmond
Spiders are coming off 2 straight losses (Radford & Alabama)
Back at home where they are 7-0
They haven't shot the ball away from the Robins Center.
This game should give Nick Sherod a chance to break out of his cold spell
Jake Wojcik could provide another spark off the bench (17 pts vs Alabama)

Some interesting game notes
  • Blake Francis is 14 points away from hitting 1,000 career points (Wagner & Richmond)
  • Nick Sherod is 36 points away from 1,000
  • When/If Francis & Sherod hit this mark, they will join UTSA as the only other school in the nation to have multiple juniors with 1,000+ pts
  • Jacob Gilyard leads the country in total steals (46 through 13 games).
    • Trails Greg Beckwith (227) for his career. Gilyard has 223.
  • With a win, Richmond would have best record since 2010-2011
  • Richmond picked up their 11th win on Feb. 20th last season. Have the chance to do that on Jan. 2 this year.
  • With a win, Richmond would be 8-0 at the Robins Center. Last did that in 2009-2010 where they started 9-0.
  • Spiders are 9-2 in their last 11 A-10 openers.

Here at the Robins Center for the Spiders A-10 opener.

Francis, Gilyard, Sherod, Cayo, & Golden the Starting 5 for Richmond

Ryan Daly was shut down offensively which definitely had a huge impact on the final. Richmond looked tremendous, and it they can keep getting help off the bench from guys like Wojcik and Grace, they are going to be dangerous. Excited to see how they fare in Rhode Island this weekend.
