Bonnies at #7 Dayton (Wed. Jan 22, 7:00, CBS Sports)

If having the opportunity to play a highly ranked opponent on their home floor doesn't move your pecker even a little bit, then man: something is wrong with you. No matter how a season is going, or what our last game looked like: it's impossible to not get up for these games. Hope the guys feel the same way, take things personal, and come out looking like we belong on the same floor.

Make your pecker move a little? I’d argue this opportunity should be causing full blown wood. Like viagra popping mega boners.

I really hope Osun suits up. Not only would it be a more competitive game, but I want to see how he stacks up vs Toppin. Osun could really make a name for himself and get on the NBA radar with an impressive performance.

I can’t see a Schmidt-led team laying down for Dayton. Not after Saturday’s blasting. There was no positives to take from the VCU game. I’m hoping for some encouraging signs on Wednesday.

Call me crazy, but I think the Bonnies will put a scare into Dayton. They’re not invincible.

I was told Osun didn't travel with the team, and being the responsible student-athlete he is, was in class today after the team had left. I hope it doesn't get ugly again, but it might.

I wish I could see Schmidt’s plan against this UD team. We’ve played them tight when they were a lot better than us in the past, but top 10 better is a little different.

Offensively, it’ll be more of the same but with probably allowing some longer three point attempts depending on their sets. Offensive rebounds will be mainly luck if we do that. Their guards can all stay in front of our guards. Like Cooke a few years ago, they have scoring from the 3/sf spot AGAIN. No Dris to pester them this time, so who knows.
Lofton will need to create and make Crutcher? and Chatman take him out of it. Bobby will get a dose of vintage A10 length and athleticism; he has to play smart or we lose badly.
Winston will be able to score if a slower defender is on him for any length of time.
Defensively, I just have no idea. They’re better at position 2-5 with similar players coming off the bench.
Maybe they’ll miss a lot? Maybe they’ll play their softest game of the year like they did in ‘16? If Dom, Kyle, and one other guy go off, we have a chance.

I say go small. FUCK your old grandma’s traditional center. If you can’t run out there with shoon, change your gameplan completely instead of trying to pretend you can compete with ikpeze.

Put a scare in them by causing havoc on the perimeter and outrunning and outgunning them with boca bobby/winston at the 5.

Worst case scenario the bonnies get violently rammed in their buttholes with oversized fist-shaped dildos. Even worse case: ikpeze fouls out in 7 minutes and they get DOUBLE fisted with oversized fist dildos.

Speaking from experience, I’ll take a single fist-shaped dildo tyvm.

No Osun, no chance. He’s the security system for this team. When he’s out, other teams just loot and riot. Taking anything and everything they want.

I hope Schmidt has something up his sleeve to keep this game somewhat competitive. If he trots out Ikpeze and plays man defense, the Bonnies will be roadkill. I can see it now. Toppin spins off Ikpeze, the help defense is late to react, and Bobby gets put on a poster. Schmidt needs to get creative. You have to mix up zone defenses and pray you can confuse Dayton and stall their offense.

I look at the VCU and Dayton games as scrimmages, i.e. a chance for us to use various looks against quality competition. Sure there's a chance we win, but it's a very slender one. Hoping everyone gets some quality playing time and O.O. is ready for an impressive return against Rhody.

Play a lot of zone and try to disrupt passing into Toppin. Make them beat you with 23 footers - which they can/will - but at least it might prevent an Obi-show. It would be hard to play man against UD with Shoon and not look silly.

I like the idea of going small without OO. If we can get Dayton to try to play the post up game like they did vs SLU we can have guards and wings double down. If Dayton plays a more traditional pick and roll game I think you have to go small and switch everything the problem with switching is Winston and Bobby aren't even a broke man's Draymond Green and Crutcher will just blow by them for layups.

I think Winston is key to playing small, if he can play average defense and not get the quick hook then we could hang around.

If OO was playing I would have gone matchup zone with OO being responsible for Miksell and able to come help vs Toppin. With Bobby or Winston drawing the main Toppin responsiblity.

Playing small sounds great... unless one of your primary placeholders at the ‘5’ doesn’t know his defensive assignments. The gentleman in question, of whom I think the world as a future scorer, rarely grasps defensive responsibilities at his own position. Schmidt isn’t an idiot. Amadi plays because he knows where to be.

Agree, and he'll be more effective and less prone to his weaknesses if the HC calls for a heaping dose of zone today. I don't want to see the same crap we saw in H1 of VCU. They got blitzed in man and I don't believe we saw much of an adjustment. Sometimes the players are the problem, sometimes the scheme is. Schmidt is a smart guy. You would think an objective look at the best chance to keep Dayton from making your heads' spin is go zone.

Bonnies should let Toppin play his game. He will get his no matter what and just focus on stopping/slowing down Crutcher and Watson.

Crutcher and Kyle played each other well last year and I expect that again. It’s a shame Osun can’t play not even for the results of the game, but just for the sake of him having the opportunity to match up against Toppin again. He did pretty well last year. Toppin was limited to 10 points and 3 boards and got himself into foul trouble.

Mikesell always kills us and I expect he will again. He’s a stronger, faster, more athletic version of Bobby. Hes less skilled but far more polished and disciplined counterpart to Winston when he’s out there at the 4.

Landers is a tough matchup for us in my opinion. He’s got the frame of a grown ass man and and a skill set to match. I’m also pretty sure he’s actually entering his 8th year with Dayton though I can’t prove it.

We need to mix it up and try a variety of lineups, including whacky ones like 4 guards or both Winston and Bobby at the same Time to keep ourselves fresh and keep them guessing. They only play 6 guys in heavy minutes. This is good in theory but the problem is whether or not our young team is equipped yet to handle an on-the-fly unorthodox game plan.

We’ll see. If nothing else, get to play a top 10 team at their place.

.. oh, and it's game day. I'm going to waste the next 6 hours refreshing sbunfurled.com until BonaCommenter has the pregame write-up posted!

It's here, and it didn't disappoint:
