Today, it was announced that Dayton will be starting a home-and-home series with Ole Miss for the next two seasons. The Flyers will host the Rebels next season at UD Arena, with the return game set up in Oxford in 2021. This game was originally supposed to be a neutral court game in Chicago, but was cancelled due to COVID-19.
This plays favorably for Dayton, who has been trying relentlessly to get home-and-home series scheduled with Power 5 Conference teams. They have been able to schedule neutral court games against these teams over the past few seasons, but are now starting to capitalize on last season’s success and schedule a few games at home.
This is the second big home-and-home series that Dayton has scheduled. SMU was the first earlier this offseason. That series will also start next season at UD Arena.
The Flyers also have a neutral court game in Atlanta against Mississippi State and a road game at Nevada. Dayton also has the Myrtle Beach Invitational scheduled in November with a chance to play higher profile mid-majors and a few other Power 5 Conference teams.
Dayton has really played off of the success of last season very well in terms of scheduling for next season. These are exactly the kinds of games that Dayton needed in order to build a good resume for what is projected to be a borderline NCAA Tournament team next season. However, most Flyer fans believe that this team is a firm NCAA Tournament team next season with a good core coming back from last year’s AP #3 ranked team.
