Davidson landed what could be the gem of their 2018 recruiting class in Austrian big man Luka Brajkovic, as he joins Michael Jones, Nelson Boachie-Yiadom and David Czerapowicz in Davidson’s 2018 class. Brajkovic chose the Wildcats over Stanford, Purdue and Penn State.
While as an international recruit he does not have a star rating, Davidson hopes to have its big man of the future. Brajkovic is still somewhat raw and needs to put on weight, but he has already shown significant improvement in the last year.
While averaging over 18 points per game in the FIBA U18 world championships, Brajkovic did most of his damage rolling to the rim and in the post. Now playing for the Dornbirn Lions in Austria, he consistently shoots and makes jumpshots, including from the three-point line.
Since Brajkovic is the best Austrian prospect since Jakob Poeltl—who Davidson also recruited heavily—it is easy to make that comparison. However, they are much different players, as Brajkovic plays and moves on the court like St. Mary’s senior Jock Landale, except that Brajkovic has shown much more promise shooting from the outside than Landale ever did.
With Peyton Aldridge graduating and the health status of the Davidson’s currently enrolled big men up in the air, Brajkovic will have an opportunity to make an impact right away. Although still raw, Brajkovic has a high ceiling and could develop into one of the best players in the conference sooner rather than later.
