Game of the Night

Duquesne Dukes 87, La Salle Explorers 60

Duquense (14-7, 4-4 A 10) took down La Salle (5-13, 1-6 A 10) on Tuesday night behind 55 second half points making it two straight for the Dukes. They shot 32-69 (46.4%) from the floor and outrebounded the Explorers 54-37. Duquesne showed no signs of fatigue after a run-in with the snow this past weekend. The Dukes were stuck on the side of a Pennsylvania Turnpike for almost 24 hours in the winter blizzard. But tonight, it was the Explorers who were stuck in a rut. They shot just 21-70 (30.0%) from the floor and 10-33 (30.3%) from three point range en route to their fifth straight loss in conference play.

Duquesne was led in scoring by Derrick Colter with 27 points on 9-18 shooting including 4-9 from behind the three point line. Micah Mason and Eric James both had double-doubles for the Dukes on Tuesday night. Mason had 14 points and 10 assists while James had 11 points and 15 rebounds. Rounding out Duquesne in double digit scoring was L.G. Gill who had 12 points and 7 rebounds. The Dukes have been solid as of late, having won four of their last five to improve to 4-4 in conference play. They’ll have a chance to continue their streak on Saturday when they travel to face the Billikens.

La Salle loses yet another game as it has now fallen to 1-6 in conference play. The Explorers haven’t been able to get anything going ever since beating Dayton at the beginning of conference play. Jordan Price led the way for La Salle once again as he scored 21 points, but the Explorers’ leading scorer was just 7-24 from the floor. Johnnie Shuler and Cleon Roberts had 13 and 11 points respectively, but they combined to go just 9-28 from the floor. La Salle needs to find a more efficient way to score the basketball moving forward if it wants to turn its season around. They’ll play Dayton again this Saturday.
