A10 Player of the Year Rankings: 2/13
It took five weeks, but Bembry has finally taken over. Along with a new number one, we have a major shakeup in the Top 5. In our weekly series, A10talk staff writer Stephen Hamilton ranks the top players in the Atlantic 10. Enjoy!
DeAndre Bembry, St. Joes- Folks, it was only a matter of time. Bembry climbs up to the number one spot after two impressive performances this week. Most notably against GW, he tallied 16 points along with 10 boards and 7 assists. The sky is the limit for Bembry, but time will tell if he retains the top spot.
Jack Gibbs, Davidson- Everyone is entitled to a bad game, so we give a pass to Gibbs. Gibbs had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists in a win over La Salle. Not exactly a bad game, but not POY numbers. Don’t worry though, we expect Gibbs to return to his usual form against GMU.
Isaiah Miles, St. Joes- An honorable mention last week, Miles makes the jump the three spot after a dominating performance against GW. Miles had 21 points and 9 rebounds in a winning effort. The 6’7 forward has shot remarkably well from three at 40%. If Miles keeps it up, he could be duking it out with his teammate for the POY.
Melvin Johnson, VCU- The four spot is where Johnson remains after an uncharacteristic performance against UMass. Johnson shot 1-9 from three, but still dropped 13 points. Just like Gibbs, everyone is entitled to a bad game. Look for Johnson to rebound against SLU.
Charles Cooke, Dayton- We have a newcomer! I’ll admit it, he probably should have been in the Top 5 a while ago but better late than never. Cooke had 24 points in 25 minutes of play against GMU this week. He also had 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and two blocks. This won’t be the last we see of Cooke.
Honorable Mentions: Terry Allen, Jaylen Adams, Jequan Lewis, Tyler Cavanaugh, Jordan Price
