A number of former A-10 players are camped out in Vegas as a part of one of two NBA Summer League locations while a pair of others made an appearance in Orlando. Here’s how they have done so far:
Langston Galloway (Saint Joseph’s) – Galloway was absent in Orlando but has appeared in two games so far for the Knicks in the Las Vegas Summer League. He opened his pro career by going scoreless in 10 minutes (o-4 from the field) but bounced back big-time with a 17-point explosion the following game in just 20 minutes of action, hitting seven of his 10 attempts. That puts him at an 8.5 ppg average with a 50% fg% in 15 minutes per game. Oddly enough Galloway’s strength — his ability to kill teams from deep — has been in weakness thus far, connecting on just one of his six attempts. When those start falling…watch out.
Ronald Roberts Jr (Saint Joseph’s) – RRII. has played just one game in Vegas with the Heat, scoring seven points and grabbing four rebounds in his 12 minutes of action (solid), but averaged 10 points and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 64% from the field in his 22.7 minutes per game with the Orlando Summer League Champs, the Philadelphia 76ers. In short, Roberts was impressive in Orlando and stands a real chance of making a roster if he can match or build on that in Vegas.
Delonte West (Saint Joseph’s) – Yes, that same old Delonte West. West is off to a decent start in Vegas playing with the Clippers. He stumbled out of the gates with a 4-point, 3-turnover night against the Bulls while connecting on just two of his seven attempts but bounced back with a 12-point, 8-rebound, 5-assist and 3-steal night against Roberts and the Heat. The NBA vet is fighting to make it back to the league after spending the last year in both the D-League and China.
Justin Harper (Richmond) – Harper suited up for the Pistons in Orlando and looked like the stud Richmond fans watched lead the Spiders to a Sweet 16. Harper averaged 12.8 points in his four games in 22 minutes per contest including a 19-point effort in 19 minutes against the Celtics where he hit all seven of his attempts. Harper had six rebounds in that game, two shy of his Summer League best 8-rebound performance the following game. The 6’10 sniper shot 60.6% from the field including a ridiculous 58.3% from range. Harper is looking to make it back into the league after spending this past season in Israel. He last played in the NBA with Orlando in 2012, then followed that up with a stint in the D-League.
Halil Kanacevic (Saint Joseph’s) – Kanacevic is looking to get it going with the Nuggets in Vegas but is off to a slow start so far. He’s shot an impressive 60% but has taken just five shots in 32 minutes of action in his two games with Denver. Foul trouble has been a theme for the recent A-10 champ, as he’s averaged three in 16.5 minutes per game so far.
Rob Loe (Saint Louis) – Loe has appeared in just 10 minutes in his one game of Summer League action but will hope to see more time to shine as he plays his way through Vegas. The former Billiken struggled in his lone appearance, going 0-3 from the field and picking up two quick fouls for the Warriors.
Will Thomas (George Mason) – The 2006 Final 4 star has been solid in limited action with the Nuggets in Vegas, averaging 5.5 points and five rebounds in his 22 minute average in two games of action. Thomas has been incredibly efficient, shooting 80% from the field (also 3-3 from the free throw stripe) but may need to take on more of a scorers mentality if the former Belgian League MVP wants to make an NBA roster.
Jamie Skeen (VCU) – Another Final 4 star, the VCU grad has had just four minutes to shine so far in Vegas but stumbled out of the gates by turning the ball over twice, picking up two fouls and missing his only attempt from the floor.
Dywane Jones (Saint Joseph’s) – Like Skeen, Jones did little to impress in his one appearance so far with the Kings, picking up four files in his only nine minutes of action while turning the ball over twice. Jones however did grab two rebounds and a steal in his only game thus far.
DeMon Brooks (Davidson) – Brooks is the only Hornets player yet to see the floor three games into Vegas.
