Fordham 79 Duquesne 67: Numbers and Notes

Fordham ended a  four game slide with a 79-67 victory over Duquesne. Friday’s game at Rose Hill Gym saw the Rams improve to 11-16 (5-9) while Duquesne dropped to 16-11 (6-8).

Kenpom.com MVP: Kyle Rose. The Fordham senior guard scored a game-high 23 points with five rebounds, three assists and zero turnovers in 26 minutes. 

 

What Fordham did well: A little of almost everything. Keith Urgo’s Rams came back from a two possession halftime deficit going on a decisive 32-15 run the first ten minutes following intermission. They also won the battle of the boards 41-28 and shot 8 of 19 for 42% from downtown.

 

What Duquesne did well. Force turnovers. Fordham had 18 miscues for an excessively high 26% turnover rate.  Keith Dambrot’s Dukes turned Fordham’s errors  into a 19-8 advantage in points off turnovers. 

 

Notes: Game had five ties and five lead changes. Dae Dae Grant led Duquesne with 15 points. Grant entered the game averaging 17.3 ppg. Fordham held the senior guard to 2 of 8 shooting from the floor. Grant scored 10 of his points at the charity stripe with a perfect 10 of 10 showing.  Antrell Charlton scored 16 points while handing out a game-high eight assists for the Rams. Fordham’s Romad Dean was the game’s leading rebounder with eight (three offensive). Rams blocked  nine of the visitors’ shots with Abdou Tsimbila leading the way with six rejections.The Fordham win avenged a late January 68-59 loss at Duquesne. Interestingly, following six losses this was the Rams’ first A10 win at Rose Hill this season.

Fordham hosts George Mason on Tuesday. Earlier this week the Patriots scored a big home win over Dayton.   

Duquesne saw a two game win streak ended. The Dukes will host La Salle on Wednesday.
