Welcome back to the North Side of Chicago, Allison Guth! Guth began her coaching career in Rogers Park as an assistant coach from 2005-2007. She played basketball at the University of Illinois where she earned a scholarship after starting her career there as a walk-on. She’s made stops as an assistant coach at Missouri, DePaul, Yale, and Northwestern before returning to Connecticut to become the head coach at Yale. She served as the Yale head coach from 2015-2022. During her time at Yale, Guth led her team to a program-record 19 wins in two different seasons. In 2017-2018, Yale won 19 games en route to a Women’s Basketball Invitational Championship – the first Women’s Ivy League postseason championship ever. In 2019-2020, Guth led her team to 19 wins and a birth in the Ivy League tournament before their season was shut down due to Covid-19. She is an impressive recruiter at Yale, where she recruited an ESPN 5-star athlete, as well as, multiple 3-star athletes.
As Guth returns home and takes the helm at Loyola, everyone will be curious how she leads the team into new territory in the Atlantic 10. The Ramblers are coming off a couple seasons of recent success. Last year they had 19 wins. In 2020-21, they had their first season over .500 since 2012-13 when they lost in the Horizon League Tournament Championship game. We believe that she will be able to draw on her experience in the Chicagoland area as well as the Northeast in order to help recruit high talent and high character young women to the team. Her head coaching experience will definitely help her face an uphill climb at a (relatively) new University in a new conference. Loyola welcomes in two new commits this year in Whitney Dunn from Kenwood Academy in Chicago and Mallory Ramage from Mattoon, IL. Guth’s next big decisions will be roster building and recruiting.
