Grind it out game with both teams below their offensive efficiency averages. It all came down to the final seconds as Dayton’s RJ Blakney slammed home the winner off an out of bounds play. Dayton, after being out rebounded in Saturday’s loss at La Salle, dominated the boards by a 39-29 count. They enjoyed a 30-17 edge in offensive rebounding percentage. Balance was the key once again. Anthony Grant’s group had four in double figures led by Toumani Camara with 11. Grant Golden led the way for Richmond with a game high 15 points.

Both teams entered with seven game win streaks. Something had to give. It turned out to be the visiting Bonnies, in a big way, playing minus Osun Osunniyi, out with an ankle injury. VCU started strong building a 21-6 lead early and never looked back. Bona was forced into a 23% turnover rate. Defensively they made the Rams turn it over at a 27% rate. Bonnies unfortunately could not capitalize, scoring only 12 points off the VCU turnovers. Meanwhile, VCU racked up 24 points off Bona miscues. Bonnies were also beaten by a 44-30 count in points in the paint. VCU’s KeShawn Curry led all scorers with 14 points. Jalen Adaway paced Bona with 12.
