Fatou Pouye earns A-10 Player of the Week for Duquesne

Ed Major IIBy Ed Major IIFebruary 21, 20221 Comment2 Mins Read

Duquesne guard Fatou Pouye has been named Atlantic 10 Women’s Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Pouye averaged 23.5 points and 5 rebounds over the last two games, both decisive wins (80-68 versus Richmond and 99-75 at St. Bonaventure) for the Dukes as they hope to use a late-season push to improve their conference tournament seeding.

Fatou, a graduate transfer from Western Kentucky, led the Dukes in points in both games. She has scored 20 or more points five times this season, including three of of the last five games. Pouye is averaging a career-high 12.5 points per game this season over 25 games.

The last Duke to claim women’s Player of the Week honors was current Duquesne guard Libby Bazelak on Dec. 23 2019.

Duquesne has won two straight games for the third time this season. The Dukes have won three straight – their longest winning streak of the season – just once, defeating  Akron 58-47, Siena 59-49, and Canisius 69-60 on Nov. 23, Nov. 27, and Dec. 1, respectively. Duquesne (11-15, 6-8 A10) has two games remaining on the schedule: Wednesday, Feb. 23 at La Salle (14-11, 7-6 A10) and Saturday, Feb. 26 versus Saint Joseph’s (10-15, 6-7 A10). The Dukes could finish as high as the No. 6 seed or as low as the No. 12 seed. Duquesne can clinch the No. 10 seed in the conference tournament with a win Wednesday. They can clinch the No. 7 seed by winning both games remaining.
