VCU gets commitment from 2018 point guard Peter Byrd

Grant LabedzBy Grant LabedzSeptember 7, 2017No Comments1 Min Read

VCU and Mike Rhoades secured their first commitment from the class of 2018 with Peter Byrd on Wednesday. The 6-1 point guard is from Fort Bend, Texas, and he’ll join the Rams in RVA in the 2018-19 season. Byrd will serve as a nice backup to Marcus Evans in 2 seasons, and he’ll probably emerge as a starter in his sophomore or junior year, depending on his progression. Either way, it’s great to see the Rams get on the board.

The VCU commit is quick with the basketball. He can drive to the hoop with ease, blowing right through defenders as he goes, and he’s got great touch from the outside. He’s got one of the better jumpshots I’ve seen from a high school player in awhile. His smooth stroke should translate to a lot of made buckets on the collegiate level.

Check out our VCU Rams forum for more content and discussion.
