VCU and Dayton are both looking for a point guard for the 2017-18 season; 2017 recruit Aaron Thompson could be the perfect fit for either team. George Mason is also in the mix. Aaron Thompson backed out of his commitment with Pittsburgh and is currently one of the hottest recruits on the market. Thompson is a 6’2″, 175 pound point guard from Glendale, Maryland. He played ball for Paul VI High School. ESPN ranks Thompson as a 4 star recruit with an overall Scout grade of 81. Pittsburgh has been victim to a number of players leaving the program this offseason, and Thompson decided he’d no longer be joining the Panthers in the 2017-18 season.

Aaron Thompson visited George Mason on Monday and is clearly keeping the Patriots in mind. VCU has apparently also secured a visit with the 2017 point guard. Dayton has expressed its interest in Thompson. With some big names in the conversation, Mike Rhoades and Anthony Grant are really going to have to fight to secure this commitment. This would be an enormous get for Dave Paulsen as well. Due to coaching changes, both Dayton and VCU lost their 2017 point guards. Lavar Batts Jr. decided to commit to North Carolina State instead of VCU; Dayton commit McKinley Wright requested release from his commitment as well. With JeQuan Lewis and Scoochie Smith graduating, there is an enormous need for a point guard at both of these schools. Thompson looks like a great candidate.
