VCU got some big news on Monday night as Rice transfer Marcus Evans decided to follow his former head coach to Richmond, Virginia. Evans was deciding between VCU, Miami (FL), and Arizona, and the rising junior ultimately chose the Rams. Evans averaged 19.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game last season for the Owls. Evans led the Owls in points, assists, and steals last season. He was one of the hottest transfers on the market this offseason, and he’ll be a huge addition to the Rams’ backcourt in a couple of seasons.

Marcus Evans will sit out this next season, but he’ll play his final two years of eligibility beginning in the 2018-19 season. With the help of Evans, VCU could be a dangerous team in a couple of seasons, as it will have a number of capable scoring options. Evans is Rhoades’ first commitment since accepting the job at VCU (though he did have players reaffirm their commitments to the school). No commitment could have been as big as this one. VCU still has 3 open scholarships for next season, and it will look to add talent from the Class of 2017 and through transfers.
