Former Colonial Patricio Garino called up to the Orlando Magic

Former George Washington star Patricio Garino has been called up from the Austin Spurs to the Orlando Magic. Garino will join the Magic immediately, and will likely suit up tomorrow night (April 4) when the Magic face the defending NBA Champions, Cleveland Cavilers.

A huge day for one of our all-time greats. Congrats on signing with the Magic, @patitogarino! https://t.co/Vm67vRJPha pic.twitter.com/JqJ41a43jN

— GW Men's Basketball (@GW_MBB) April 3, 2017

Garino has appeared in 49 games this season for the Austin Spurs, and has started 46 of those games. He has averaged  11.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game this season in the NBA D-League. Garino went undrafted, but played for the Orlando Magic Summer League team. In his final three seasons at GW, he received all A-10 Defensive honors, as well as second team all A-10 in his senior season in 2016. He also appeared on the Argentinian National Team in the Olympics this past summer in Rio.

GW head coach Maurice Joseph said of Garino: “I am proud of Pato and even more excited for his future because his best basketball is still ahead of him. His dedication and work ethic has gotten him to this point but it is his unmatched passion for the game that will allow him to succeed at the next level. He is and always will be a Colonial but today we celebrate the next step in Pato’s journey with the Orlando Magic organization!”

The Magic have five remaining games left, April 4 at Cleveland, April 6 against Brooklyn, April 8 against Indiana, April 10 at Chicago and April 12 against Detroit.
