Duquesne recently hired Keith Dambrot from Akron as its new head coach, and he wasted no time getting down to work in the first few hours of the job. After Dambrot was announced as Duquesne’s new head coach, Akron guard Tavian Dunn-Martin announced that he’d be joining his head coach in his new position. Dunn-Martin averaged 4.0 points per game as a freshman for the Zips. He’ll likely get a lot more playing time with the Dukes.
Knowing he had some voids to fill due to a number of Duquesne players leaving the program, Keith Dambrot got out and made a plethora of offers to both 2017 and 2018 recruits (most of which he had been recruiting at Akron). Â Duquesne’s new head coach made offers to Jack Ballantyne, David Collins, Torrey Patton from the Class of 2017 and Dylan Swingle, Brandon Wade, and Duane Washington Jr. from the Class of 2018, per Verbal Commits.
Most of Duquesne’s young talent has decided to transfer out of the program these last few days, and rising sophomores Isiaha Mike and Mike Lewis II are the two biggest hits. It will be interesting to see if Dambrot can convince these two to stay at Duquesne. Both freshmen made the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team this past season and showed a tremendous amount of promise under Jim Ferry. If Dambrot can harness that talent and convince it to stay in Pittsburgh, this team will all of a sudden have some success to build on. It’s probably not going to be a great first season due to all of the changes that need to be made, but Keith Dambrot is doing a great job at Duquesne, and he hasn’t even been the head coach for 48 hours.
