After serving a ten game suspension to start the season, Dyshawn Pierre is back and starting to look better than ever for the Flyers. The senior forward came off the bench for his first few games once rejoining the team, but has since been inserted into the starting lineup. For Dayton’s last two games he has replaced redshirt freshman Steve Mclvene in the starting five and has certainly made an impact on the offense. Since his return, Pierre is averaging 13.3 PPG and had his best performance Friday night against George Washington. He put up an impressive 26 points and hit some clutch shots for the Flyers. The improved ball movement he also helps provide has resulted in Dayton scoring 80 and 77 points their last two games. Before Tuesday’s game against Davidson, the Dayton offense was only averaging 73 PPG and seemed to struggle heavily at times. With his scoring and passing abilities, Pierre’s return to the starting lineup has certainly helped the Flyer offense get back on track thus far.
Dyshawn Pierre’s return not only makes the Flyer’s offense better, his presence on defense supplies a needed boost. Dayton prides themselves on the defensive end of the floor and having the 6’6″ versatile forward back helps out a lot. After having to play the Power Forward/Center role for most of last year, he enters this year experienced and well equipped to handle anyone down in the post. Since returning, Pierre is averaging almost seven rebounds per game. This is huge for the Flyers considering how much they value winning the rebounding margin. The return of Dyshawn Pierre has definitely benefitted this Dayton team as they prepare for the rest of conference play and March.
