Davidson Wildcats 74, Dayton Flyers 80

Despite keeping the game close in the second half, the Wildcats did not have enough in the tank to upset the Flyers on Tuesday night. Jack Gibbs had 31 points and 6 assists on the night to lead all scores. While he certainly had no issues putting the ball in the bucket for the Wildcats, Dayton had it’s own flurry of scoring from a number of contributors. Scoochie Smith, Kyle Davis, Dyshawn Pierre, and Kendall Pollard all scored 14 or more points on the night. Pierre had his first double-double of the season with 10 rebounds.

After losing to La Salle over the weekend, Dayton got a much-need bounce-back win over a good Davidson team. The Flyers move to 3-1 in conference play and still seem to be the most legitimate team in the conference. They’ll have one of the toughest tests of the season when they face off against George Washington on Friday.

Davidson, on the other hand, is clearly struggling due to a number of injuries. With players sidelined, the Wildcats are forced to use Jack Gibbs as much as possible in the conference. Though he’s been a dynamic scorer throughout the season, it’s clear that he can’t do it all. Someone else is going to need to step-up. Davidson falls to 2-2 in the conference and will look to rebound on Saturday when it faces off against Massachusetts.

George Washington Colonials 81, Massachusetts Minutemen 70

Tyler Cavanaugh has arguably been the most consistent player in the conference this season.  The Wake Forest transfer has scored in double figures in ever game so far this season, and did more than that last night.  The forward made 13 of 15 free throws en route to a 26 point performance.  The front court play was stellar all night for the Colonials, who used a big second half to pull away – their three starting bigs netted 56 points and 16 rebounds between them.  Donte Clark had 19 points for the Minutemen, who fell to 1-3 in the conference this year.
