The Duquesne Dukes have recently learned that they will be without one of their best players for the 2016-17 season. L.G. Gill a 6’8″ junior forward has decided to become a graduate transfer. This past season Gill finished third on the team in scoring, putting up 10 points per game. He only trailed senior guards Micah Mason and Derrick Coulter in that category. Gill also led the team in rebounds averaging 6.5 a game. His combination of size and strength made him a dominant player for the Dukes.
After not having made an appearance in the NCAA tournament in his time at Duquesne, it appears Gill seeks more of a winning culture. He already made a visit to Marquette and will visit Maryland this weekend. Gill currently has no other visits planned despite rumors of Texas possibly going after him. With only one year of eligibility remaining, Gill wants to make sure he chooses wisely.
The loss of L.G. Gill greatly effects Duquesne this upcoming year. With Mason and Coulter graduating, the Dukes have now lost their three best players from the 2015-16 season. Duquesne finished with a .500 record last year and was hoping to improve on that this year. They are coming off a CBI tournament appearance and 10th place finish in the A-10. With Gill transferring, the Dukes task to compete nationally as well as in the A-10 becomes much more challenging.
