Rams hire Wade, GW’s Savage seeks transfer

College basketball officially wrapped up the 2014-15 season last night but the A-10 action off the court continues at a frantic pace.

VCU TABS FORMER ASSISTANT FOR HEAD COACHING SPOT

The defending A-10 tournament champion VCU Rams have named their new head coach, bringing former assistant Will Wade back to Broad St. to lead the black and gold. Wade was the first hire of Tommy Amaker at Harvard, the first hire of Shaka Smart at VCU and now becomes the first men’s basketball hire by VCU AD Ed McLaughlin as well.

The Nashville, Tennessee native spent four seasons under Smart before taking the head coaching position at UT Chattanooga where he turned around a slipping Mocs program, earning SoCon Coach of the Year honors in his first season with the program.

Wade was a key part of four very successful season at VCU, helping lead the Rams to a 7-3 NCAA tournament record during his time in the Commonwealth (six wins as an underdog). VCU went 0-2 in NCAA tournaments following his departure with both losses coming as the higher seed.

GW’S SAVAGE SEEKS TRANSFER

The George Washington Colonials looked to be one of next year’s chic preseason picks to finish atop the A-10 conference due to a number of talented returning pieces. One of those key pieces, second leading scorer, Kethan Savage (11.2 ppg), will no longer be an option.

“We appreciate the contributions Kethan made to the program over the last three years,” coach Mike Lonergan said in a news release.

Savage started 25 games for the Colonials before coming off the bench the final 10 games of the season. The Fairfax, VA native reportedly will reportedly look to find a school where he can play point guard full-time.

RHODY REVOLVING DOOR UPDATE

Former Towson guard, Four McGlynn, will join Memphis transfer Kuran Iverson as two new faces joining the Rhode Island Rams next season. They’ll look to help absorb the losses of Biggie Minnis, Matthew Butler and Jarrelle Rieschel who were recent announcements to be headed elsewhere.

Stay tuned for a full list of transfers from around the Atlantic 10 as they’ll come.
