Rhode Island, GW kick off A-10 NIT action

Mat Shelton-EideBy Mat Shelton-EideMarch 17, 2015No Comments1 Min Read

The Atlantic 10 will be represented by VCU, Davidson and Dayton in this year’s NCAA tournament, leaving Richmond, George Washington and Rhode Island in charge of NIT duties.

Two A-10 teams will make ESPN appearances tonight in that NIT action. Rhode Island, a No.3 seed, will host Iona (26-8) at 7PM on ESPNU while fifth-seeded George Washington will travel to Pittsburgh (19-14) to take on the Panthers at the exact same time on ESPN.

The Richmond Spiders earned a No.1 seed and were revealed as the first team left out of the NCAA field (ouch!). They’ll host St. Francis Brooklyn (23-11) Wednesday night at 7:30PM on ESPN3 and will host the winner of UConn and Arizona State if they can survive the Terriers first.

Three wins would earn the Spiders, Rams and Colonials a trip back to New York, as the tournament’s semifinal and final games are held at the historic Madison Square Garden arena in Manhattan.
