CBS’ Rothstein makes early predictions

CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein has been a major voice lately when it comes to A-10 basketball, a voice he used Tuesday to make some early Atlantic 10 predictions through his Twitter account, @JonRothstein. Be sure to give him a follow after checking out his rankings and thoughts below:

A-10 Preseason Power Rankings:
1. VCU
2. Dayton
3. GW
4. UMass
5. URI
6. Richmond
7. La Salle
8. SLU
9. Saint Joseph’s
10. George Mason
11. Duquesne
12. St. Bonaventure
13. Fordham
14. Davidson

Preseason Sleeper Team: La Salle

Preseason Player of the Year: Treveon Graham, VCU

Preseason All-A10 1st Team: Kendall Anthony(Rich),E.C. Matthews(URI),DeAndre Bembry(SJU),Treveon Graham(VCU) Jerrell Wright(La Salle).

10 Impact A 10 Freshman for 14-15: Terry Larrier (VCU), Justin Tillman (VCU), Jared Terrell (URI), Jarvis Garrett (URI), Yuta Watanabe (GW). Darrell Davis (Dayton) James Demery (SJU), Amar Stukes, (La Salle), Jordan Robinson (Duquesne). Eric Paschall (Fordham).

5 Under-The-Radar A 10 Freshman for 14-15: Paul Jorgenson (GW), Eric Lockett (Mason), Manny Suarez (Fordham), Jonathan Williams (VCU). Antravious Simmons, VCU.

5 Breakout A10 Players for 14-15: Mo Alie-Cox (VCU), Trey Davis (UMass), Shawn’Dre Jones (Rich) Scoochie Smith (Dayton),Hassan Martin (URI).

This past offseason Rothstein had some fairly accurate predictions, naming Dayton his “Sleeper” while questioning if less would be more for Saint Joseph’s (although still picked them to finish seventh). His 2013-14 rankings (with regular season finish went as follows: 1. VCU (2) 2. SLU (1) 3. La Salle (8..but hey, didn’t we all whiff on that one?) 4. UMass (6) 5. Dayton (5) 6. Rhode Island (11) 7. Saint Joseph’s (4) 8. George Washington (3) 9. George Mason (12) 10. Richmond (7) 11. Fordham (13) 12. Duquesne (10) 13. St. Bonaventure (9).

Mat Shelton-Eide

Mat Shelton-Eide has been involved in college athletics since 2007, starting as a co-founder of VCURamNation.com where he covered the Rams all the way to Houston as the one-time CAA darling shocked the hoops world with a historic run to the Final 4. He has worked within two Atlantic 10 athletic departments, first as a graduate assistant in the VCU Sports Information Department during the '09-'10 basketball season, then after receiving his M.Ed. from VCU's Center for Sport Leadership, as a ticketing and marketing intern in the University of Richmond's athletic department during the inaugural season of Richmond's Robins Stadium, months before the Spiders 2011 Sweet 16 run.
