Dayton basketball dismissed starting center, Devon Scott (9.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg) and backup big man Jalen Robinson (3.2 ppg, 2.4 rpg), due to the duo’s involvement in a trespassing incident that involved stolen property in a dorm room.
“I’m extremely disappointed in Jalen and Devon. Their actions do not reflect the behavior we want in our program,” coach Archie Miller said. “Our student-athletes are given every opportunity to be successful on and off the court. Despite ample opportunity to do so, their actions demonstrate they chose not to take advantage of that. More important than wins and losses, it’s about members of our program being committed to represent the University of Dayton in the manner we all expect.”
The loss leaves the Flyers without an eligible player taller than 6’6 as 6’11 freshman, Steve McElvene, is forced to sit this season as an academic redshirt, ruled a partial qualifier by the NCAA.
This isn’t the first incident for Scott. The junior big pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct against the mother of his son earlier this year. According to court documents, University of Dayton police brought charges that accused Scott of “striking” and “dragging” Keonna Austin at 11 p.m. April 1. He was reinstated to the team after taking that plea this past August.
“Mr. Scott has never been in trouble before,” Scott’s attorney, Michael Wright, told the judge in that case. “There should not be any future incidents, your Honor.”
The Flyers are 7-2 to start the season heading into a Saturday home game against Boston University.
Dayton is coming off a 14-point road loss at Arkansas, a game they were out-rebounded by 9 with Scott leading the Flyers with eight of Dayton’s 25 in the loss.
