5 A-10 schools make class of 2017 recruit Walter Whyte’s Final 12

Walter Whyte, a 4 star recruit in the class of 2017 according to ESPN, narrowed his list down to 12 schools on Monday, and incredibly, 5 A-10 schools are in the mix to land the star small forward. Davidson, Fordham, Richmond, Saint Joseph’s, and St. Bonaventure were all on Whyte’s list when he announced it via Twitter. In addition, Whyte is still considering Northeastern, Yale, Lehigh, San Diego, Brown, Boston University, and Penn. Though Whyte had as many as 30 schools recruiting him, he’s narrowed his decision down to these 12.

Walter Whyte is a 6-5, 220 lb forward out of New Haven Connecticut who plays for St. Luke’s High School. Whyte can flat out ball too. His mid-range game is spot-on, and when he takes it to the hoop, he drives with authority. Walter Whyte is also a player that can hit the three with regularity. And even though he probably bears no resemblance to Walter White of “Breaking Bad,” we here at A10 Talk still think his name is bad-ass, and in college basketball, that’s half the battle. Check out this video of Whyte dunking over everyone.

So who’s it going to be? Whyte did take a visit to Fordham this past week, but with so many schools left on his list, it’s hard to find a frontrunner at this point. All we know is that there’s almost a 42% chance that he ends up at a school in the A-10 Conference, and that’s pretty incredible. It’s also worth noting that both Duquesne and VCU were also in the mix before Whyte decided on his top 12. The Atlantic 10 would be thrilled to have this guy around, that is, unless you have to play against him. Given his talent, he could become a high-level college player in a couple of years.
