St. Louis University coach Josh Schertz gave his team a mixed review after the Billikens downed the St. Joe Hawks 102-79. There was much for the coach to love about his team’s offense. The Billikens set a new school record after making 19 threes (19-of-32, 59.4 percent) as they surpassed the century mark for the sixth time this season. SLU shot 63.3% for the game overall, and assisted on 25 of their 38 field goals against only seven turnovers.

Despite the lopsided win, there’s a sense SLU is capable of playing much better. After praising the team’s offense, SLU Head Coach Josh Schertz was far less enthusiastic about the team’s attention to details defensively. Coach Schertz said you could “pretty much name something defensively and it would be an F level.”

Thankfully in this game, the offense earned straight-A’s. Senior center Robbie Avila led all Billikens with 20 points and a game-high eight assists, which tied his career mark. Junior guard Quentin Jones poured in 17 points, including 3-4 three-pointers. Sophomore forward Ishan Sharma tied his career high of 16 points, going 5-8 from behind the arc. Brady Dunlap and Paul Otieno both tied their career highs of 4 assists.
