St. Louis University coach Josh Schertz talks a lot about maintaining focus throughout the entire game, and not letting the score affect how the team plays. “Playing the right way” according to Coach Schertz means focusing on the possession in front of you. SLU did exactly that Wednesday night. The Billikens were not distracted by the upcoming Christmas break and knew they had to respect a Bethune-Cookman team that earlier in the season had taken Auburn to overtime. The Billikens took care of their business both offensively and defensively against Bethune-Cookman, running away with a 112-53 win.
The Billikens, now 10-1 on the season, sank a season-high 17 three pointers on 29 attemps. Assists have been trending up in recent weeks, and the Bills once again set a season-high in this category with 29. SLU held a 48-29 rebounding advantage on the night, and defensively they held Bethune-Cookman to a season-low 27.4% shooting.
SLU’s scoring was spread throughout the lineup, with seven players in double figures. Guard Trey Green led the way with 19. Five different Billikens had at least five rebounds.
