Travis Ford and the Billikens kicked off A-10Talk’s SLU week in style, securing a commitment from 2018 wing Mickey Pearson over the weekend.
Pearson is a 6’8 wing with good perimeter skills from Elizabethtown, KY who plays for John Hardin High School. He has good length (as evidenced by the photo he used when announcing his commitment) and smooth shooting stroke, which, when paired with his size, could make him into a deadly weapon for the Billikens in the future. His length and quickness also gives Pearson a lot of potential as a defender. Pearson is a bit of a late bloomer who plays at a smaller school against lower competition, but his physical skills have been been gaining him more recognition lately. Most of his other offers were from mid-majors, but St. Bonaventure also had offered him.
Pearson joins an already stacked 2018 recruiting class, featuring blue chip forward Carte’Are Gordon(Webster Groves, MO), and guard Fred Thatch(Sikeston,MO). This gives Travis Ford a balanced recruiting class, with a guard, a wing, and a post player. Additionally, Ford has already had success in finding under-the-radar wings, with Jalen Johnson. Both Pearson and Johnson are long, lanky wings with good outside shots who put up big scoring numbers against somewhat lesser competition in high school. Pearson needs to put on some weight, but Travis Ford has added a player with a lot of potential who could give A-10 opponents absolute fits with his length and shooting ability.
