VCU in the mix for Nebraska Transfer Andrew White III

Grant LabedzBy Grant LabedzAugust 1, 2016No Comments2 Mins Read

One of the biggest transfers to hit the college basketball market in the last few years has a big decision to make. The former Cornhusker Andrew White III averaged 16.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last season having made more than a 14 point jump in scoring two seasons prior when he played for the Kansas Jayhawks. Needless to say, he emerged as one of the best scorers and all-around players in the Big Ten last season, and whichever school is able to snatch him up will be adding a key player for the coming season.

VCU is one of the remaining schools in the mix, according to multiple sources, though it’s tough to know just what White III is thinking. Just when it seems he may have his list narrowed down, he goes on a surprise visit and adds yet another interested school to his growing list. The Richmond native unexpectedly visited the Spiders this past week, though sources report that Richmond is likely no longer in the mix for White III. Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Texas, UCONN, Miami, and Michigan State were just a few of the schools that have expressed their interest in White III over these past couple weeks. Where he’ll end up still remains a mystery.

Luckily for the VCU Rams, Michigan State is apparently out of the mix as Andrew White III has now officially decided that he will transfer out of the Big Ten Conference. This is huge news for the Rams who are hoping hometown ties can lead White III to join them next season. A very capable payer on both offensive and defense, White would fit perfectly for the Rams. He’d likely fill the role of small forward or shooting guard with a powerful frontcourt to help him out as well. Undoubtedly, VCU would have one of the best rebounding teams in the entire nation. Add in a very talented point guard in JeQuan Lewis, and you have a team that’s Top 15 material. Andrew White III’s decisions is still up in the air, but VCU could definitely be one of the frontrunners at this point.
