Additions and Subtractions is the latest A10Talk series taking a look at new and departing players in each of the Atlantic 10 programs. Today we continue by examining the roster change-ups for the Duquesne Dukes.
Key Additions
- Michael Lewis II, G (6-2, 173 lbs)
Heading into the 2016-17 season, the Duquesne Dukes will have three new freshman. One of the players in the Duke’s 2016 recruiting class is 6’2″ guard from Saint Louis, Missouri, Michael Lewis II. Lewis attended Chaminade College Prep. School and also played AAU ball for the St. Louis Gym Rats. Coming out of high school, Lewis is listed as a 2-star shooting guard who can do a little bit of everything. He can handle the ball and averaged 10 points per game to go along with 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Lewis hopes to become one of the next great Duquesne guards.
- Spencer Littleson, G (6-4, 190 lbs)
Another member of the Duke’s 2016 recruiting class is also a 2-star shooting guard. Coming out of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Spencer Littleson is ready to make his mark with Duquesne. Littleson is a great shooter that can also play point guard. He resembles Micah Mason a lot and certainly shows flashes of talent that could turn him into an outstanding player. If Littleson continues to work hard, the Dukes might have found themselves a steal.
- Kellon Taylor, F (6-5, 220 lbs)
Coming out of DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, Kellon Taylor is a two sport athlete. He played both basketball and football in high school and will compete in both for the Dukes. Taylor helped lead DeMatha to a No. 13 national ranking. He is certainly a well-rounded player, averaging 8 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and almost 4 steals per game. Taylor received interest from other A-10 teams like George Washington and Saint Bonaventure before committing to Duquesne. He could be a nice addition to the Dukes this season.
- Isiaha Mike, F (6-7, 200 lbs)
The final player in this year’s Duquesne recruiting class is 6’7″ power forward, Isiaha Mike. Mike is coming from Toronto, Canada where he attended Trinity International Schools. The 2-star forward can do a lot of different things on the court. His athleticism enables him to block shots, but he’s also a solid shooter. Because the Dukes do not have much depth when it comes to their big men, Mike could be thrown right into the fire. With L.G. Gill and Isaiah Watkins transferring from Duquesne, Mike better come ready to play.
Key Subtractions
- L.G. Gill (F), TySean Powell (F), and Desmond Ridenour (G)
During this offseason Duquesne has learned that they will have three players transferring. L.G. Gill, TySean Powell, and Desmond Ridenous will all be leaving the program. All three were very solid players that the Dukes wanted to utilize this year. With them gone, Duquesne will have to call upon some of the younger, incoming guys to step up.
- Derrick Colter, G
With the 2016-17 season quickly approaching, the Dukes will have to learn how to play without some of their all-time great guards. Derrick Colter was part one of the two-headed Duquesne monster. Despite being only 5’11” Colter averaged 17.9 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game for the Dukes in his senior season. Colter gave Duquesne all he had night in and night out. Losing a leader like him will be challenging to overcome.
- Micah Mason, G
Micah Mason made up the second part of the Duquesne monster. In his senior season, Mason averaged 18.4 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game. The prolific shooter possessed the ability to terrorize opponents at any time. His outstanding play and leadership will certainly be missed at Duquesne. With him and Colter gone, the incoming freshman guards will have some big shoes to fill.
- Jeremiah Jones, F
The final key player graduating from Duquesne is Jeremiah Jones. In his senior year with the Dukes, Jones averaged 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. The 6’4″ small forward contributed nicely, complementing Mason and Colter well. Duquesne will have to try and find a way to replace these three guys along with walk-on Nick Foschia for the upcoming season. While the Dukes add some very nice pieces, they also lose some real stars.
