Each week, A10 Talk’s staff ranks each team in the Atlantic 10 conference (1-14) based on where they believe each team places overall. Each team’s ranking is averaged, and A10 Talk creates a compiled ranking to represent the site. 13 different contributors vote in each week’s rankings. Be sure to check out last week’s power rankings right here. Here are this week’s power rankings.
1. Dayton Flyers (Avg: 1.38)
The Flyers surge into the top spot this week after VCU had its undefeated streak in conference play snapped by George Washington. The Flyers had a fairly easy week as they were able to crush George Mason 98-64 and move to 9-1 in conference play and 19-3 overall. They’ll try to keep up the momentum this week when they face Duquesne at home on Tuesday and Rhode Island on the road on Friday.
2. VCU Rams (Avg: 1.88)
VCU had its 12 game winning streak snapped by George Washington this past week, and subsequently, the Rams fall to the #2 spot in our weekly rankings. Despite their loss, the Rams did manage to take down La Salle on the road last Wednesday. They’re now 9-1 in conference play and 17-6 overall. This week, VCU plays at Massachusetts on Thursday and then at home against Saint Louis on Saturday.
3. George Washington Colonials (Avg: 3.13)
George Washington ascends up into the 3 spot this week after getting one of the biggest wins of the season in the A-10: a road win over VCU. The Colonials also managed to take down Davidson earlier in the week. George Washington now stands at 7-3 in conference play and 18-5 overall. They’ll have a tough stretch this week when they face St. Joseph’s at home on Wednesday and St. Bonaventure on the road on Saturday.
4. St. Joseph’s Hawks (Avg: 3.75)
St. Joseph’s falls into the 4 spot this week after winning just 1 of 2 games. The Hawks lost at home to the Bonnies earlier in the week but managed to get a bounce-back road win over Fordham. They’re now 8-2 in conference play and 19-4 overall. This week, St. Joseph’s will have a tough contest on the road against George Washington on Wednesday and then a very winnable home game against La Salle on Saturday.
5. St. Bonaventure Bonnies (Avg: 4.88)
Despite the fact that St. Bonaventure really did have a good week winning both of its games, the Bonnies fall back into the 5 spot due to George Washington’s success. The Bonnies are definitely on the rise though, as they managed to take down St. Joseph’s on the road and Saint Louis at home. They’re now 7-3 in conference play and 15-6 overall. They’ll play at Fordham on Wednesday and at home against GW on Saturday.
6. Davidson Wildcats (Avg: 6.00)
Davidson stays in the 6 spot this week after going 1-1 in the games it played. The Wildcats fell to George Washington on the road but got a nice bounce-back win over Duquesne on the road. They’re now 5-5 in conference play and 13-8 overall. They’ll have a chance to get some wins this week when they take on La Salle at home on Wednesday and George Mason on the road on Saturday.
7. Rhode Island Rams (Avg: 7.00)
The Rams remain in the 7 spot this week after going 1-1 in the games they played. They were unable to beat Massachusetts on the road, but they were able to rebound nicely with a road win over La Salle. Rhode Island now stands at 5-5 in conference play and 13-10 overall. This week, the Rams will host George Mason on Tuesday and then Dayton on Friday.
8. Richmond Spiders (Avg: 8.38)
The Spiders remain in the 8 spot this week after winning just 1 of the 2 games it played. Richmond had a tough home loss to George Mason but was able to rebound by taking down Massachusetts. The Spiders are now 4-6 in conference play and 12-10 overall. They’ll go on the road to face off against Saint Louis on Wednesday and then return home to take on Fordham on Saturday.
9. Duquesne Dukes (Avg: 8.63)
The Dukes remain in the 9 spot once again after they saw a 3 game winning streak come to an end over the weekend. Duquesne lost the only game it played this week, a home matchup against Davidson on Saturday. The Dukes are now 5-5 in the conference and 15-8 overall. This week, they’ll have a very tough road matchup against Dayton on Tuesday and then a home contest against Massachusetts on Sunday.
10. Fordham Rams (Avg: 10.38)
The Rams stay in the 10 spot once again after losing the only game it played this past week. Fordham lost at home to St. Joseph’s this past Saturday. The Rams have now lost 3 of their last 4. They sit at 3-7 in conference play and 12-9 overall. This week, they’ll play St. Bonaventure at home on Wednesday, and then they’ll go on the road to face Richmond on Saturday.
11. Saint Louis Billikens (Avg: 10.75)
The Billikens stay in the 11 spot this week despite losing the only game they played. Saint Louis lost a very close game on the road against St. Bonaventure on Sunday. The Billikens have now fallen back to 3-7 in conference play and 8-14 overall. Things won’t get much easier for Saint Louis this week. The Billikens will host Richmond on Wednesday and then go on the road to take on VCU on Saturday.
12. George Mason Patriots (Avg: 12.13)
The Patriots move up into the 12 spot this week after they were able to get one of their better wins of the season. George Mason took down Richmond on the road but then got crushed by Dayton at home. The Patriots are now 2-8 in conference play and 8-15 overall. They’ll have a tough schedule this week when they go on the road to face Rhode Island on Tuesday and then host Davidson on Saturday.
13. Massachusetts Minutemen (Avg: 12.75)
Massachusetts falls back into the 13 spot this week despite winning 1 of the 2 games it played. The Minutemen squeaked out an overtime victory over Rhode Island but then fell on the road to Richmond. Massachusetts is now 2-8 in conference play and 9-13 overall. This week, the Minutemen will host VCU on Thursday and then go on the road to take on Duquesne on Sunday.
14. La Salle Explorers (Avg: 14.00)
La Salle remains in last place, this week, as the unanimous pick. The Explorers couldn’t get a home win against VCU on Wednesday and then failed to beat Rhode Island at home on Saturday. They’re now just 1-9 in the conference and 5-16 overall. They’ll try to bounce back this week, but things won’t get much easier. The Explorers take on Davidson on Wednesday and St. Joseph’s on Saturday, both games coming on the road.
