Tough news struck the Spiders on Tuesday as junior guard Khwan Fore will miss 4-6 weeks with a stress reaction in his left tibia. Fore’s UR’s returning leading scorer this season; as a junior, he’s expected to make an enormous jump in a number of the game’s facets. Unfortunately, the Spiders will be shorthanded until his return.
Freshman guard Jacob Gilyard should see increased time in UR’s backcourt, the likely starting point guard heading into the beginning of the season. It’s likely that Nick Sherod and Julius Johnson also get a lion’s share of minuted in Richmond’s backcourt prior to the return of Khwan Fore.
Richmond has some tricky games at the start of the season, so the Spiders would greatly benefit from getting Fore back as soon as possible. In particular, having the junior guard for home games against Georgetown and Vermont on November 25th and November 29th could be crucial. Should he not be in the mix for some of UR’s tough non-conference games, De’Monte Buckingham and an array of new Spiders will have to pick up the slack.
