“Today is a big day for me,” Kellan Grady said very matter-of-factly. He is not wrong, and today was also a big day for the Davidson College coaching staff. Davidson secured their top target for 2017 and won a big recruiting battle today when Kellan Grady committed to the Wildcats. The highly sought-after Grady is a 6’4″ combo guard from West Roxbury, Massachusetts. He plays his high school basketball at Northfield-Mt. Hermon, which is one of the best basketball high schools in the nation. Grady also plays AAU ball for the New England Playaz.
Proud to announce my commitment to play basketball at Davidson College! Thank you to everyone who’s helped me along the way! #Wildcats

Trust. Commitment. Care. #Davidson @DavidsonHoops @DavidsonMBB

Kellan has big hopes for his senior year, as well as his future at Davidson: “We fell just short [this past season]. We lost in the final four of the national championship, and I would love to win a national championship next season.” Grady’s high school, Northfield Mt.-Hermon, is no stranger to the big stage, having won a national title in 2013. Talking about his future time at Davidson when he will be on campus in 2017, Grady knows the expectations that are on him, but he is not the least bit phased. Davidson will be losing Jack Gibbs, but Grady knows what he has to do: “[the coaches] have high expectations in me to fill in his spot and produce the best I can”. Grady has already embraced the Davidson culture of “Trust, Commitment, and Care”, and will be a welcome addition to the Wildcat family.
Scouting and Ratings
ESPN: 3 Star, #53 Shooting Guard, #7 Massachusetts
ESPN has Grady as a 3 star prospect, but have not updated his ranking since September of 2015, before his junior season.
Scout: 4 Star, #90 Overall, #2 Massachusetts
Scout.com has Kellan Grady as a Top-100 overall prospect, and one of the best point guards on the East Coast, ranking as the #6 PG in that region. Scout has rated Grady multiple times over his junior campaign, and firmly sits inside their Top-100 and 4 star range. They caught up to Grady at the National Prep Showcase, where he displayed the ability to play multiple guard positions:
“In the past Grady has played off the ball, but he’s in the midst of a transition to the point guard spot. He obviously has good size for the position, but he also has good length. On Friday, Grady made good decisions with the ball, proved to be a good passer and knocked down open shots, which helped open up his floor game.”
Grady will probably be playing multiple guard roles for Davidson, much like we have seen Brian Sullivan do for the last couple of years.
247 Sports: 3 Star, #160 Overall, #5 Massachusetts
247 has Grady as a 3 star and as the #35 point guard in the country. The 247 Composite, which combines the rankings of the major recruiting services has Grady at a similar spot. There were 5 “Crystal Ball” predictions for Grady before his commitment, all of them for Davidson.
Offers & Other Suitors
Grady had offers from over 20 schools, mostly in the northeast. These offers included Atlantic Ten schools Richmond, Rhode Island, and St. Joseph’s. Other notable offers included Creighton, Northeastern, Old Dominion, and Xavier. Butler, Villanova, Stanford and Providence had all reportedly expressed interest in Grady as well.
