5. Virginia Commonwealth Rams

Recruiting goal: Establish a new level
Top targets: Jairus Lyles, JeQuan Lewis

With the momentum of a recent Final Four appearance and armed with a dynamic young coaching staff, VCU is poised to take advantage of the increased exposure that will come with moving to the Atlantic 10. Coach Shaka Smart is smart enough to know that he must capitalize on the program's momentum on the recruiting trail, and he has.

Smart already has commitments from two guards: the 6-1 Lyles, from famed DeMatha High School, and 6-1 point guard Lewis. In addition, he has the Rams involved with a host of high-level East Coast recruits as he bangs heads with the Big East and ACC. A gift fell in Smart's lap when former Miami recruit and one of the top players in the New York area, Melvin Johnson, was released from his letter of intent and signed with the Rams after visiting in early July. He's eligible to play this season.

While there's little doubt that Smart would have kept the VCU train rolling even in the CAA, the Atlantic 10 and the Rams will be a great marriage. Smart is already getting to the altar with some pretty talented players.
