After taking over a Dayton team with a lot of roster questions, Anthony Grant continues to find answers with efficiency. The Flyers filled their final available scholarship spot for the 2017-18 season with the signing of Obadiah Toppin on Tuesday. Toppin, a 6’9″ forward out of Baltimore, Maryland, chose Dayton over schools like Illinois, Mississippi State, and Rhode Island. While Toppin is still developing his game, his freakish athletic ability could cause serious problems for opponents in the near future.
With Ryan Mikesell likely out for the year and Sam Miller recovering from a broken ankle, Toppin provides Dayton’s front court with needed depth. Toppin will join the likes of Flyer bigs Josh Cunningham, Kostas Antetokounmpo, Xeyrius Williams, and Jordan Pierce next season. Despite the uncertain start to his tenure, Anthony Grant has already completed Dayton’s 2017-18 roster and has it looking better than most expected.
